Hopewell Crime & Arrest Update — March 2026
The Hopewell Police Department reported heightened activity this week with 22 arrests, including response to a shooting incident and successful drug interdiction operations.
Weekend Shooting
A shooting incident on West Broadway early Saturday morning left one person hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries:
- The suspect, a 23-year-old male, was arrested during a traffic stop hours later
- Charges include malicious wounding and use of a firearm during a felony
- A second individual was arrested on accessory charges
- Investigators recovered the weapon used
Drug Operations
Hopewell narcotics officers, operating with Tri-Cities Drug Task Force intelligence, conducted two operations:
- Riverside Avenue raid — 3 arrests, seizure of fentanyl and crack cocaine, one illegal firearm recovered
- Appomattox Street traffic stop — Vehicle search led to discovery of distribution quantities of marijuana and controlled substances, 2 arrests
Burglary Ring Busted
A joint investigation between Hopewell PD and Colonial Heights police led to the arrest of 4 individuals suspected of a burglary ring operating across the Tri-Cities:
- Over $50,000 in stolen property recovered
- Suspects connected to at least 15 residential burglaries
- Charges include grand larceny, breaking and entering, and receiving stolen goods
Hopewell Court Activity
Hopewell General District Court processed 18 arraignment hearings this week:
- 5 felony preliminary hearings
- 3 bond modification hearings
- Multiple cases bound over to Circuit Court
DUI Enforcement
Weekend DUI saturation patrols along Route 10 and Route 36 resulted in 4 DUI arrests.
