The Petersburg Bureau of Police reported 38 arrests during the week of March 17–22, 2026, marking a 15% increase from the previous week. The Tri-Cities area (Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights) saw coordinated law enforcement activity.
Shooting Incidents
Petersburg police responded to three shooting incidents this week:
- Washington Street shooting — One person shot and injured late Tuesday evening. A suspect was arrested within 24 hours and faces aggravated malicious wounding charges.
- Halifax Street drive-by — Multiple shots fired into an occupied vehicle. No injuries reported. Investigation ongoing with shell casings recovered.
- South Crater Road altercation — An argument escalated to gunfire near a convenience store. One arrest made, the suspect faces attempted murder charges following a foot pursuit.
Drug Enforcement Operations
The Petersburg Special Investigations Unit, working with the Tri-Cities Drug Task Force, conducted a series of raids resulting in:
- 7 arrests for drug distribution
